*** BBQ and Tournament report***

Excitement was mounting as the Dulverton Tennis Tournament and BBQ 2023 drew closer.……..Saturday 12 August was successfully moved to Sunday 13 August due to the very wet and unpredictable Exmoor weather.
On recently refurbished and newly painted courts, fourteen intrepid players eagerly held their racquets at the ready and embarked upon a tennis marathon!!
Richard Drewer had cleverly masterminded the event structure and selected the pairings - so the fun and play began. Each player had the opportunity to play against all other participants in the 7 set (7 games in each) extravaganza and my goodness it was quite strenuous for many, but great fun all the same - thank you Richard.
The atmosphere, friendly banter and mild (ha ha!!!) competitiveness contributed to what was a great afternoon and despite a few grumbles from aching limbs, everyone managed to finish in one piece.
The scores, meticulously counted by Richard Drewer, were met with eager anticipation and all waited with bated breath to learn how they had faired against their opponents, although of course “it’s not about the winning, it’s about the taking part” (at least I think that’s what Jon Garner was heard muttering!!!).
Nicky Johnston was eventually declared the 2023 Tournament Champion with Ed Richardson coming a very close second - congratulations abounded and the victor traditionally shared the champagne prize, generously donated by Richard Sinclair.
The eagerly awaited and much appreciated bbq, again provided by Richard Sinclair, was devoured with great gusto and once again Richard did not disappoint with his culinary delights.
Funds for the club were raised from both the bbq and the raffle and many thanks go to all who contributed.
As a somewhat reluctant participant, I am now a convert of this great event and am very much looking forward to 2024 - watch out Nicky and Ed!!!!
